Course Description

Mindful Signing: Brain-Boosting Activities in ASL | Engage in fun, interactive brain games in American Sign Language. Boost cognitive function while enhancing ASL receptive and expressive skills. Explore how lifestyle factors can impact brain health and reduce dementia risk. $212 includes $10 fee. Prerequisite: Students must have completed CSL-303: Conversational Sign Language 1 and CSL-304: Conversational Sign Language 2 (unless screened by the instructor) and be comfortable in a voice-off signing environment.

Learner Outcomes

Define dementia and list two significant implications for the U. S. and Global economies; Improve receptive and expressive ASL skills through guided activities and list two strategies to reduce the risk of dementia; Develop visual-spatial awareness and ASL fluency while simultaneously participating in voice-off games using the 5 Parameters of ASL Signs; Review and expand upon foundational vocabulary adding 50 signs and 20 sign phrases.
