Course Description

History of World Architecture 1 | Examine the development of world architectural styles, including European, Southeast Asian, Indian Chinese, and Japanese, from the ancient world through the late European Middle Ages. Learn architectural design and city planning as responses to religious, political, economic and cultural needs, as well as for an understanding of their structural principles. Textbook information available at AACC Bookstore. CEUs issued. $382 includes $10 fee. Note: All sections also offered for credit, ART 221 or ACH 221.

Learner Outcomes

Describe architecture of the ancient world, such as megalithic monuments of the Neolithic period and the pyramids and temples of ancient Egypt; Describe architecture and city planning of ancient Greece and Rome; Discuss early Christian and Byzantine architecture and the evolution of churches; Describe early medieval and Romanesque architecture and the influence of French, Italian, German and Norman Romanesque styles; Examine the development of world architectural styles, including European, Southeast Asian, Indian Chinese and Japanese styles.
