Course Description

Veterinary Assistant 2: Inpatient, Surgery and Emergency | Understand basic inpatient care and clinical procedures involving anesthesia, pre- and post-surgical care, emergency, dental and dietary care. Review fluid, oxygen and physical therapies. CEUs issued. $639 includes $186 fee. Corequisite: CCS-533 Veterinary Assistant 1: Outpatient, Diagnostics and Pharmacy and OPA-354 Workforce Success Skills. Note: Call 410-777-2970 or 410-777-7387 prior to registration.

Learner Outcomes

Identify equipment used in IV catheterization, catheter placement sites and surgical trays; Demonstrate the ability to properly dispense and administer oral medications and nutritional foods; Perform appropriate techniques involved with bathing, dipping and grooming, fecal and heartworm exams, collecting urine samples, dental care, sanitizing exam and operating rooms, cages and kennels; Perform correct procedures for labeling drugs and radiographs, filling radiographs, setting radiograph machines and positioning animals for x-rays; Explain and perform correct procedures for setting up the appropriate medical equipment, drugs and supplies associated with an emergency crash cart .
