Course Description

Clouds: A Multidisciplinary Exploration | Learn to identify the different kinds of clouds that fill the sky and explore the ways clouds have inspired writers, poets and visual artists. $33+ includes $32 fee. Note: Requires membership in Peer Learning Partnership (PLP). Biannual membership is $30.

Learner Outcomes

Explain how clouds form through the processes of evaporation, condensation, and atmospheric lifting; Identify the three main altitude levels of clouds (high, middle, and low) and describe their characteristics; Interpret common cloud patterns to make basic short-term weather predictions (e.g., approaching storms, fair weather); Explain the role clouds play in Earth's water cycle and energy balance; Distinguish between natural clouds and human-made phenomena such as contrails and fog; Apply cloud observation skills safely when making outdoor recreation or travel decisions; Discover the imagery of clouds in literature and poetry.
