Course Description

Small Business Accounting | Use Quickbooks® software (included with text, Windows®-based) for the study of computerized accounting systems with emphasis on the application of accounting theory and practice. Complete projects for both a service and merchandising company, including creating a company, recording transactions for revenue and expenses, completing payroll, adjusting accounts, reconciling bank accounts and closing the accounting cycle. Use a personal computer for downloading, copying, opening, naming, saving, compressing and uploading data files. CEUs issued. $382 includes $10 fee. Note: The Windows-based version of Quickbooks is required for this course. Therefore, students must have access to the Windows operating system; Mac users may use Boot Camp to run Windows. Also offered for credit as BPA 217 or ESI 217.

Learner Outcomes

Discuss federal and state reporting requirements as they relate to a particular type of business; Demonstrate an understanding of basic accounting principles; Evaluate accounting software to meet the needs of a specific type of business; Develop spreadsheets to satisfy business reporting requirements; Describe the types of records that need to be maintained and their retention cycle, and relate them to a specific business.
