Course Description

Introduction to Egyptian Hieroglyphics | Gain a solid foundation in Egyptian hieroglyphs, one of the most iconic writing systems in the world. Explore their history, structure and use. Learn to read, translate and write simple hieroglyphic sentences. Gain an appreciation for their cultural and historical significance. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Examine the history and culture of Egypt through Hieroglyphs; Review the fundamental basis for this pictorial language of the Ancient world; Recognize vocabulary words and phrases in Hieroglyphs as well as on artifacts, and learn to read, translate and write simple, original hieroglyphic sentences.
