Course Description

Dental Assisting Radiology Skills Lab | Learn the basic skills necessary to become an entry-level dental assistant. Demonstrate radiation safety and infection control procedures. Position patients and radiographic equipment for dental X-rays. Prepare for the Dental Assisting National Board Radiation Health and Safety exam. Textbook information available at AACC Bookstore. CEUs issued. $642 includes $282 fee. Prerequisite: OPA-381 Dental Assisting Lecture, OPA-382 Dental Assisting Skills Lab and OPA-383 Dental Assisting Radiology Lecture. Note: Must have a high school or GED® diploma and be 18 or older to enroll. English as a Second Language students must earn a composite score of 310 or better on the Level of English Proficiency exam, or successfully complete Capstone Level ESL coursework. Additional cost for the Dental Assisting National Board Exam for the Radiation Health and Safety exam and for teal scrubs and shoes.

Learner Outcomes

Demonstrate appropriate use of radiation safety measures and infection control protocols during all radiographic procedures; Accurately position patients and radiographic equipment for intraoral and extraoral imaging using both digital and traditional radiography; Expose, process, and evaluate radiographs for diagnostic quality, ensuring adherence to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles; Recognize and correct radiographic technique errors in a clinical or simulated setting; distinguish anatomical structures and abnormalities on images; Maintain proper documentation and practice effective, ethical communication with patients during radiographic procedures, including obtaining informed consent.
