Course Description

Bringing your Mediation Practice to Maryland: Ethics and Resources | Focus on the Maryland court system, dispute resolution programs, mediation-related rules and statutes, Maryland standards of conduct for mediators and mediation-related resources. CEUs issued. $50 includes $35 fee. Note: This course does not meet the requirements in Maryland Rule 17-104 for the 40 hour basic mediation training. Designed to provide useful information for individuals who received their basic mediation training in another state, for the mediator trained in Maryland who is returning to their practice of mediation after an extended break and for any mediator interested in a quick refresher about the practice of mediation in Maryland. This self-paced asynchronous course is divided into four modules. Each module focuses on a specific aspect of mediation in Maryland. Module 1: Maryland Court System and Dispute Resolution Programs, Module 2: Mediation Related Rules and Statutes, Module 3: Maryland Standards of Conduct for Mediators, Module 4: Mediation-Related Resources.

Learner Outcomes

Identify the dispute resolution programs supported by the Maryland Judiciary and identify trainings necessary for specialized mediation practices; Demonstrate and recognize the contexts and conditions in which the various rules and statues apply; Identify key differences between the Maryland Standards and the Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators adopted by the American Arbitration Association, American Bar Association, and Association for Conflict Resolution (2005) (Model Standards); Recognize and identify the various mediation related resources in Maryland.
