Course Description

Generations: What Changed and Why | Study the key shifts in attitudes and lifestyle choices that have defined each American generation from the Missionaries (born 1860-1882) through Gen Z. Explore the factors that drove change. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Study the key shifts in culture for the American generation from the Missionaries through Generation Z; Review the findings of Jean Twinge and others and seek to understand the causes of generational change; Examine the changes that have become apparent in marriage, income distribution, mental health, race, sexuality, politics, and technology; Evaluate the conventional theory that generational differences are caused by major events; Compare the findings of various authors and consider their conclusions.
