Course Description

Clothing: Design, Sew and Sell: Intermediate Level | Focus on working with a specific fabric type and build upon existing skills. Explore updated procedures and elevate sewing expertise. Note: Intermediate class. Students must be comfortable threading their sewing machine and committed to regular attendance. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Review five major parts of the sewing machine and demonstrate two key safety procedures; Build upon sewing vocabulary and name two guidelines for choosing the correct fabric for a clothing project; Read and interpret commercial patterns, make alterations for fit, and understand grain lines; List the steps involved in constructing two different types of garments, and from basic skirts and tops to more complex items like dresses or jackets;  Identify and describe effective methods for advertising, displaying, and pricing handmade clothing items to increase sales within local and regional markets.
