Course Description

Funny Writing: 21st Century American Comedic Novels | Explore, question, laugh, possibly cry. Read American satirical comedy novels written in the first quarter of the 21st century and discuss ideas, character, plot, setting, theme, literary style, and the social and political implications of award-winning, attention-grabbing, controversy-generating, critically acclaimed, best-selling fiction. Note: Senior Cycle class. Students must be 55 or older by start date to enroll.

Learner Outcomes

Demonstrate communication skills of listening, thinking, speaking, and writing; Explain how language is a human expression of humor; Differentiate the characteristics of comedies and tragedies; Relate one’s life experience and outlook to an author’s sustained point of view; Practice skills in discussion dynamics that can be applied to life, family, and civic contributions.
