Course Description

Touchstones Discussions: Volumes B and C | Read brief extracts from the great works of Western and Eastern civilizations, as well as folktales from China and Mexico, and discuss the ideas of philosophers, writers and thinkers such as Plato, Francis Bacon, Herodotus, and Alexis de Tocqueville, James Madison and Thomas Jefferson. Senior Cycle class. Students must be 55 or older by start date to enroll.

Analyze brief abstracts from the Great Works of Western and Eastern civilizations, as well as folktales from China and Mexico; Evaluate the ideas of philosophers and writers, including Plato, Francis Bacon, and Alexis de Tocqueville; Identify key ideas in abstracts of selected writings; Apply life experiences and personal perspectives to passages of literature and philosophy; Practice leadership skills in discussion dynamics that can be applied to life, family, and civic contributions.
