Examine the diaspora paradigm captivity, exile, salvation and redemption -- in ancient Jewish texts; Differentiate between migration in general, and particular forms of coerced migration, involving slavery, genocide, famine and political oppression that characterize the diaspora paradigm; Discover how diaspora has applied to five distinct groups: Jews, Asians, Africans, Armenians and the Irish, and the role diaspora has played in the history, culture and politics of each of these groups; Analyze whether or not diaspora applies to current national groups caught in political and military turmoil, including Afghans, Ukrainians, and Syrians; Analyze why diaspora is the ideal concept for the global age; Investigate the potential role of climate change in causing diaspora crises in the future.Loading...
