Course Description

Explore the concept of stereotype threat and its impact on student learning, engagement, and performance in higher education. Examine how societal stereotypes and implicit biases can shape students experiences in the classroom and campus spaces, often creating additional pressure that affects confidence, participation, and academic success. Learn how to recognize when stereotype threat may be present and develop practical, student-centered strategies to reduce its impact. Define stereotype threat and explain its impact on student learning, engagement, and performance. Recognize situations where stereotype threat may be present in classroom and campus environments. Apply student-centered strategies to reduce stereotype threat and create more affirming, inclusive learning spaces. Grounded in AACCs commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success, workshop topics emphasize the importance of creating affirming environments where all students feel valued, capable, and empowered to fully engage and thrive.
