Course Description

Generative AI can complete many traditional college assignments, and it can also create new opportunities for active learning, critical thinking, and career preparation. In this hands-on workshop, participants apply the SAMR + AI Framework- combining the SAMR technology-integration model with Blooms Taxonomy- to redesign one assignment, assessment, or learning activity from their own course. Identify the intended level of student thinking, determine the appropriate role of AI, and use structured prompts to explore possible enhancements or transformations. Evaluate their redesigned activity to ensure that AI supports rather than replaces student thinking. Leave with a practical, discipline-specific draft that includes an updated assignment description, expectations for AI use, a student deliverable, and a strategy for evaluating learning. Participants should bring an existing assignment or activity they would like to revise. No previous experience with AI is required. Based on Alyshia Keys-Harris Practical SAMR + AI Framework for Instructional Design.
