Course Description

Discover how might the concept of “fugitive pedagogy” provide insights for navigating the teaching of diversity content in hostile social and political climates. Examine what can we learn from the persecution of Black teachers and are there lessons here for thinking about the importance of academic freedom. Explore what connections might we make between the outlawing of education for Black folks as a tool of white supremacy during slavery, and modern day attempts to outlaw anti-racist content in our education systems and as anti-racist educators, what ethical obligations do we have in our classroom.
