Course Description

Prepare to teach ESL students in community and workplace settings; learn the theory of the communicative language teaching approach and its application to second-language teaching and learning; explore best practices and pedagogical debates around teaching various language skills (e.g. reading, listening, etc.); discuss assessment techniques and classroom management; learn to develop and execute a lesson plan. Note: Must be 16 years or older. ENG-101 eligibility is strongly recommended. For questions about this recommendation, please contact the English Language Learning office at esloffice@aacc.edu.

Learner Outcomes

Apply principles of language learning and teaching in the classroom; Use a variety of interactive learner-centered techniques to foster language learning in the four skills; Monitor student progress with alternative assessment activities; Identify appropriate textbooks and materials for different levels of instruction; Demonstrate how to write a lesson plan.
