Course Description

Central Sterile Processing Externship: 4 | Examine the functions and responsibilities of the Central Sterile Processor for infection control and traffic patterns when in the operating room and other departments. Identify proper storage and transportation standards for supplies. CEUs issued. $60 includes $10 fee. Corequisite: STP 505 Central Sterile Processing: Externship 1, STP 506 Central Sterile Processing: Externship 2, STP 507 Central Sterile Processing: Externship 3. Note: Must be 18 or older to enroll. The externship is held during the week (no weekends) at certain medical facilities and space is limited. Note: Students must have coordinator approval to register.

Learner Outcomes

Describe how central service is involved in controlling infections in hospitals; Explain the purpose of occupational safety and health Act; Demonstrate the ability to identify and select appropriate instrumentation or equipment; Describe supply distribution systems and the principles of inventory control; Demonstrate the ability to recall and dispose of or reprocess sterile supplies.
