Course Description

Humor, Laughter and Health | Discover how laughter, humor and playfulness affect physical, mental and emotional well-being; increase blood circulation and muscle relaxation; and improve immune system response while decreasing stress hormones. Learn to enliven your brain, enhance your creativity and improve your memory while having fun with others in the class. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Identify specific general mechanisms through which humor contributes to physical health and wellness; Examine disease conditions for which humor and laughter have been found to support improved health; Identify components of the immune system known to be strengthened as a result of humor and laughter; Examine possible causes for the reduction of pain resulting from humor and laughter; Develop an understanding of the connection between laughter and the neurotransmitter oxytocin.
