Course Description

Healthy Living for Older Adults | Increase awareness of the health benefits of exercise through dance, including lowering cholesterol, stabilizing blood sugar and lifting endorphins for a greater feeling of well-being. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Define the concepts of physical fitness; Discuss the value of physical activity and nutrition; Demonstrate an understanding of health and safety precautions; Describe ways of incorporating health and wellness into a lifestyle; Demonstrate techniques for self-assessment.

Omalley Senior Center | Dance | No class May 25 | This class is designed to strengthen the cardiovascular system plus tone muscles through aerobic dancing. It is a professionally choregraphed workout by Jacki Sorensen for healthy people who want to stay fit in a fun, effective way. Hand-held weights and floor work are used for a portion of the class to help improve strength and flexibility. Easy dance steps are taught and cued throughout. Upbeat music is used beginning with the warm-up to the cooldown. This is a beginner to intermediate class for students who enjoy a wide variety of music and movement.

South County Senior Center | Tap Dance | Come learn fun tap dance routines. Learn a variety of skills and choreographed tap dances. Some tap experience is preferred. Tap dancing will help increase muscular strength, motor skills, cardiovascular conditioning and will sharpen your memory.
