Course Description

Adapted Physical Education 2 | Learn how resistance and weight training can improve mobility, balance and daily living activities through skills and concepts utilized in chair exercise classes. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Evaluate current research related to aging and adapted physical activity; Demonstrate adapted techniques and strategies for improving coordination and balance; Outline and demonstrate how adapted physical activity will increase metabolism, flexibility and reduce age related loss of muscular strength; Discuss and demonstrate techniques for self-assessment.

Online | Chair Yoga | This class is an enjoyable and energizing seated yoga class. Emphasis is placed on posture, core strengthening and lengthening muscles used for balance. The class includes yoga breathing techniques, seated warm-ups, and standing strengthening exercises in which the chair is used as a balance aid. Debbie will warm you up including a seated joint warm-up. Online | Chair exercise with light weights | No class May 25 and June 1 | Join Sandras Chair exercises which can come in handy when you have limited mobility or find it hard to maintain your balance. The movements increase blood flow and keep your joints active and lubricated. They also strengthen your muscles and increase flexibility and mobility as you work out. Pascal Senior Center | Seated Chair Exercise | This chair class is perfect for anyone who is new to exercise class, trying to gain strength or physical limitation. All movements are done sitting in a chair, and moves are simple and gentle. You will use hand weights, resistance bands, and balls to maintain and strengthen your upper and lower body. Also included in this class are simple cardio routines which will aid brain training and maintain your coordination. Note: For your safety, please wear sneakers to class. No crocs, flip flops, sandals or slides allowed.
