Course Description

Core Stability Techniques 2 | Improve the function of deep trunk muscles for correct alignment of the spine and other stabilization techniques through skills and concepts utilized in Pilates. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Examine the anatomy and bio-mechanics of core stability; Discuss the benefits of core stability related to posture, injury management and functional performance; Demonstrate techniques to stabilize and strengthen deep trunk muscles and maintain postural alignment; Outline safety considerations when training for core stability; Discuss and demonstrate techniques for self-assessment.

Annapolis Senior Center | Pilates with Weights | This progressive Mat Pilates class emphasizes building core strength and learning controlled movement of the arms and legs to increase strength, flexibility, and fluidity. Early sessions include discussion of Pilates history and philosophy alongside gentle movement variations. By the end of the 10-week session, classes are primarily exercise-based, incorporating more advanced, strenuous variations and additional exercises. Join John and experience steady, measurable gains in strength.

Chair and standing exercises using weights, band, and bender ball. Focus is on core strength which includes all muscles supporting the spine. Workout includes leg and arm exercises.
