Course Description

Functional Conditioning | Discover how to develop strength and flexibility to help older adults perform functional movements with the Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Review low impact aerobics, weight training and stretching. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Evaluate functional movements on the sagittal, frontal and transverse planes; Identify methods that condition biomotor abilities including flexibility, strength, endurance, agility and coordination; Demonstrate how to conduct static and dynamic postural assessments; Discuss and demonstrate techniques to develop muscle memory and help make movements "automatic."

South County Senior Center | Total Body Conditioning | No Class May 25 | This class starts with a cardio warm-up through creative dance movements for the arms, shoulders, waist, and hips. We then focus on strict, controlled movements to maintain good form, engaging the core and toning the diaphragm and abs. Students will achieve this by performing strengthening and stretching exercises that target functionality of the legs, hips, back, shoulders, and arms. Pasadena Senior Center | Zumba Toning | A unique way to improve your body through the combination of dance and fitness with a focus on FUN which ensures you will stick with it! This whole-body workout to great music will tone arms and legs, strengthen your core, and improve your balance. The class is very senior-friendly as it allows the participant to easily modify any movement due to ability or needs. Light Toning sticks are used; while like traditional hand weights, they are constructed to allow for improved movement. Come dance your way to leaner muscles and a more sculpted shape.

Arnold Senior Center | Total Fitness | No class May 8 and June 19 | Improve overall physical health, stamina, flexibility, and balance while gaining the benefit of stronger muscles. As we age, we naturally lose muscle mass and bone density leaving the joints more vulnerable and susceptive to injury. Stronger muscles around the joint help to protect and preserve joints.
