Course Description

Integrative Strength and Flexibility II | Demonstrate techniques and functional movements that will improve flexibility, muscular strength and posture. Learn how to manage stress and enhance daily living through developing a heightened sense of body awareness and self-awareness. Note: This course teaches skills similar to those found in a yoga class. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Define flexibility and its importance in maintaining functional abilities; Examine the human body including the respiratory, digestive, muscular and nervous systems; Demonstrate techniques for self-assessment; Identify and demonstrate functional movements that will improve posture, muscular strength and coordination.

Online | Chair Yoga Chair | Chair Yoga is an adapted form of yoga that makes yoga accessible to everyone. The chair replaces the mat and becomes an extension of the body. We will do seated and standing work with the chair for balance and support. South County Senior Center | Mat Yoga | No class July 31 | Practiced primarily on the mat, this class focuses on slow, controlled movements, mindful breathing, and simple poses that are accessible for all experience levels. Participants will be guided through a series of stretches, strengthening exercises, and relaxation techniques that help reduce stiffness, ease joint discomfort, and enhance mobility. Movements can be adapted to individual abilities making it ideal for anyone. The emphasis is on comfort, safety, and listening to your body while enjoying the benefits of mindful movement.

Severn Senior Center | Mat Yoga | No class September 5 | This yoga class welcomes all levels and includes meditation, stretching, strengthening, and flow-based movements tied to breath. The class begins with grounding meditation, followed by a blend of floor-based, standing postures, and flow. The focus is on strengthening, lengthening, and stretching through a creative series of postures in continuous motion. To thrive, your body should be healthy, injury-free, and familiar with basic postures. Youll leave feeling relaxed, stretched, and realigned. Bring your mat for a wonderful experience! Namaste!

Arnold Senior Center | Mat Yoga | No class September 7 | This is a yoga flow class. Anyone who is ready to challenge yourself to the next level, this class will be perfect for you. We will start with Sun salutations to warm ourselves up and move on to some standing poses and balances. Finishing up with on the floor seated position to stretch and ending our class on the floor with some core strengthening and savasana. (Sometimes we will use a magic ring to make our class more fun!)
