Course Description

Integrative Strength and Flexibility II | Demonstrate techniques and functional movements that will improve flexibility, muscular strength and posture. Learn how to manage stress and enhance daily living through developing a heightened sense of body awareness and self-awareness. Note: This course teaches skills similar to those found in a yoga class. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Define flexibility and its importance in maintaining functional abilities; Examine the human body including the respiratory, digestive, muscular and nervous systems; Demonstrate techniques for self-assessment; Identify and demonstrate functional movements that will improve posture, muscular strength and coordination.

Online | Beginner Mat Yoga | This is a beginner and gentle yoga class. An introduction to yoga breathing and meditation is included. Gentle stretches and movements with these postures will help to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and range of motion. The yoga postures are introduced at a simple level; more challenging options are given for students with some experience. The postures are held for a short period followed by a relaxation posture. Practice of balance is also emphasized. Suggested equipment: a non-slip sticky mat and a belt, strap, or old tie. | Note: Beginner Mat Yoga. Online | Mat Yoga and Relaxation | RELAX & RENEW Combo! Mindful breathing and gentle yoga-based stretches (floor/mat or chair) relieve muscle tension and joint pain, plus detoxify the entire system. Unlimited modifications support students of all levels! Then, we transition to a comfortable, reclined position for a deep, guided relaxation. These distinct elements unite to calm the nervous systems, support mental and cognitive function, promote physical strength and flexibility, and cultivate a sense of inner balance!
