Course Description

World of Opera | Explore late 17th century to the early 20th century composers, their operas and the society of the day. Receive a brief summary of the plot and main roles. Review the music and the story through CD, DVD and video recordings.

Learner Outcomes

Recognize the stylistic periods in opera; Discuss the various production elements of sets, costumes, lighting and special effects in opera; Identify different operatic compositional styles; Review forms in opera such as the solo aria, recitative, duet, trio and overture; List prominent opera composers.
