Course Description

Foundations of Community Interpreting: Part 2 | Continue preparing to use multilingual skills to become a professional community interpreter. Required textbook: “The Community Interpreter.” 3 CEUs. $301 includes $31 fee. Note: Designed for students at advanced low proficiency level or above in target and source languages. 

Learner Outcomes

Apply interpreter code of ethics and standards to legal, emerging specializations, and remote interpreting contexts; apply appropriate decision-making strategies for common challenges in community interpreting with a focus on communicative autonomy, mediation, and advocacy; employ sight translation, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting skills in community settings via role play simulation; demonstrate applied professionalism, respect for cultural differences/nuances, and culturally responsive mediation.
