Course Description

Examine the design elements and principles that govern the creation of good floral compositions. Critique arrangements using industry-wide evaluation criteria.  Perform in-depth analysis, refine compositions and correct weak design applications using applied knowledge of design principles. A portfolio consisting of 4 completed designs is required upon completion of the course.  Students must provide their own flowers. This is an advanced-level class designed for students interested in certification or competition. Upon successful completion and scoring, students will be referred to AIFD® for testing. This course is suitable for continuing education credit for AIFD®.  $280 includes a $30 fee. Prerequisites: CFD® designate, FLR-345 Foundations of Floral Design 2, or permission from instructor.

Learner Outcomes

Define the elements and principles of design and describe how they relate to floral design; Describe three arrangements using the eight elements of design; Analyze the extent to which the arrangements have met the seven principles of design and identify the color harmonies used in each; Examine and critique two arrangements work using a professional Floral Design evaluation form; Complete and submit a portfolio of 4 arrangements using the format provided.
