Course Description

Master Healthy Aging: A Medical Perspective | Examine the key principles and practices for maintaining health and well-being as we age. Discover a comprehensive overview of the physical, mental and social aspects of aging, with practical strategies to enhance quality of life in the later years. Note: Ideal for adults interested in learning about healthy aging, caregivers and anyone seeking to improve their own or their loved ones' quality of life as they age. Instructor is a licensed nurse practitioner. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

List five key principles for healthy aging and list four key routine screenings, the guidelines and timelines for the recommended screenings for older adults; Discover three tactics to incorporate meal planning and nutritional habits into daily life; Name five benefits of exercise among older adults and demonstrate examples of recommended exercises such as aerobics, strength, balance, and flexibility training; Identify three risk factors for cognitive decline, such as genetics, lifestyle choices, and comorbid health conditions, and discuss their impact on brain health; Develop evidence-based strategies to prevent falls and practice examples of home modifications, balance training, and preventative exercises.
