Housing the Homeless. Do We Have the Will? | Homelessness persists in the United States. Examine the causes and demographics of homelessness, housing policies and programs, and potential solutions. $23 includes $22 fee.

Learner Outcomes

Examine the causes of homelessness and the lack of affordable housing that fuels homelessness; Explain the impacts of mental illness, incarceration, addictions, and poverty on finding housing and staying housed; Evaluate social policies that undermine the availability of affordable housing; Develop a better understanding of the precariousness of living on low wages and the downward spiral caused by evictions and debt; Explore possible solutions such as housing-first programs and other federal and state subsidies; reforming local government zoning laws and other land use requirements; Review the public housing programs in Vienna as a possible model to help abate the American housing crisis.
