Course Description

Fun With Flowers: May Day Baskets | Create a beautiful May Day basket to gift or adorn a home or business. Delve into the May 1 tradition that started in the 1800s in the United States and over 60 years ago in Annapolis. $83+ includes $50 fee. Note: Basket, flowers and ribbon will be supplied. Students must bring pruning shears and/or floral knife, ribbon scissors, wire cutters and a box to carry home a basket.

Discuss various styles of May Day baskets and the origins of Annapolis’s May Day tradition; Identify methods to personalize a May Day wall basket design; Evaluate the best construction techniques and flower selection for basket style and thematic expression; Create a May Day basket.
