Course Description

Dylan in the 1960s | Listen, read, and discuss Bob Dylans songwriting, singing and poetry in the formative decade of the 1960s. Listen to the music that influenced him and explore how he developed his art and persona. In 2016, Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Consider his songwriting as lyric poetry. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Compare life experiences and outlook to brief passages of song and poetry; Analyze the music of early Bob Dylan as lyric poetry; Explore musical influences from blues, folk music, and country music; Examine Dylan’s rise in both popularity and controversy; Identify connections among song, poetry, lyricism, and allusion.
