Course Description

Examine brief passages from great books of the Western and Eastern traditions, American speeches, and folktales from around the world. Collaborate as creative thinkers in a guided discussion. Explore new ways of thinking, speaking, listening and exchanging ideas. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Develop and improve communication skills of listening, thinking, speaking, and writing; Compare passages of literature, philosophy, history, and science from the Western tradition to modern-day experiences; Recite passages from the authors of Western literary tradition, such as Homer, Francis Bacon, St. Augustine, and Plato; Create journal entries; Develop leadership skills in discussion dynamics that can be applied to life, family and civic contributions.
