Course Description

Discover Wales rich history, myths, and mysteries in this fascinating class. From Snowdonias ethereal beauty to Wrexham and Cardiffs working-class charm, explore ancient castles, herd sheep, and decode the complexity of Welsh words. Part history lesson, part travel story, this class will captivate you with the wonders of Wales. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Identify the geographic areas of Wales and name three unique physical features which make Wales an unspoiled and untamed country; Explain two ways Wales’ geographical proximity to areas settled by early Saxons influenced the development of Welsh language and culture; Describe two incidences where invasions and major wars over thousands of years created a shift in culture and language which still impacts the culture of modern Wales; Define and evaluate the political connection between Wales and the United Kingdom, their historical links through wars, culture, history, and language, and the modern benefits of this connection; Create a sample travel itinerary that will provide historical sites, transportation options, and cultural opportunities.
