Course Description

Fundamentals of Welding | Learn oxy-fuel, gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc and shielded metal arc processes through lecture and hands-on practice. Discuss basic metallurgy, welding codes, distortion control and welding symbols. CEUs and an Earlbeck Certification of Completion issued. $2,235 includes $1,932 fee. Prerequisite: Students must attend INF-302 Information Session for Welding prior to registration. Note: Must be 18 or older to enroll. Bring welding gear issued at first class. Denim jeans, long-sleeve cotton shirt and hard-toe boots must be worn in class. Note: Sections of this course will follow Earlbecks closure schedule, not AACCs. Classes meet in Earlbeck Gases and Technologies.

Learner Outcomes

Demonstrate appropriate welding safety practices with equipment, tools and materials; Interpret basic welding symbols and codes and differentiate between the metallurgy of common metal alloys; Perform cutting of steel, and stainless steel with oxy-fuel and plasma cutting equipment; Recognize dye penetrant, mag particle, ultrasonic and radiographic welding inspection methods; Perform basic techniques in groove and fillet welds on carbon steel.
