Course Description

American Revolutionary Generation | Explore the lives and legacies of Americas Founding Fathers, focusing on their pivotal roles in breaking from British rule and crafting the foundations of a new government. Gain insight into the ideologies, domestic life of the period and the early presidencies that shaped the birth of the United States. Note: Senior Cycle class. Students must be 55 or older by start date to enroll.

Learner Outcomes

Identify and compare three or more ideological perspectives that fueled the American Revolution including concepts of liberty, representation, and natural rights; Examine the structure and guiding principles of two early American state constitutions and discuss how they reflected post-revolutionary ideals; Analyze a timeline of critical events from the Stamp Act to the Declaration of Independence and explain three factors that led to the colonies’ formal separation from Britain; Critique the leadership styles and policy decisions of early U.S. presidents such as Washington, Adams, and Jefferson, and participate in group discussion; Explore the personal lives of select Founding Fathers and summarize two insights into their family dynamics, occupations, and social customs.
