Course Description

Ancient Greece: History and Culture | Discover ancient Greece and its rich history, cultural influence and legacy. Explore topics from early Greek civilizations to famous myths and heroes to major wars. Discuss everyday life including customs, medicine and beliefs about death, the Greek Alphabet, the Olympic games, ancient drama and theatre.  Note: Senior Cycle class. Students must be 55 or older by start date to enroll.

Learner Outcomes

Recognize the major periods and events in Ancient Greek history; Understand the key historical conflicts like the Trojan War, Persian Wars and Peloponessian Wars; Explore Greek Mythology including gods, goddesses and heroic tales; Discover how ancient Greeks lived- their customs, beliefs, rituals and daily life; Learn about ancient Greek medicine and the origin of the Hippocratic Oath; Appreciate how Ancient Greek ideas and culture still influence the world.
