Course Description

Sewing: Design, Sew and Sell, Beginning 1 | Become familiar with basic sewing machine use. Learn about essential tools and how to use them correctly. Complete class projects that include home decor and more. Note: Students must bring a good pair of shears, glass head pins, pin cushion, ruler or tape measure, two fat quarters (18-by-22-inch piece of fabric) and coordinating thread. Senior Cycle class. Students must be 55 or older by start date to enroll.

Learner Outcomes

Identify at least five major parts of the sewing machine and explain two key safety procedures; Demonstrate threading the sewing machine and winding the bobbin using one standard technique; Identify three types of fabric and explain which fabric should be used for each project; List and describe three methods for advertising, displaying, and pricing merchandise to increase sales; Complete two beginner-level sewing projects by the end of the course.
