Course Description

Clothing: Design, Sew and Sell: Advanced Level | Explore piping, invisible zippers, finishing techniques, working with slippery fabrics and marketing finished products. Prerequisite: Students must have successfully completed BNS-901 Clothing 1: Design, Sew and Sell or BNS-911 Clothing: Design, Sew and Sell-Intermediate Level, or have instructor permission. Note: Advanced class designed for independent sewers. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Demonstrate how to install an invisible zipper and apply piping to a garment sample presenting precision and a clean finish; Read and hack a commercial pattern to create a custom garment design and document the modifications in a pattern journal; Complete a garment using slippery or specialty fabric and demonstrate control in cutting, pinning, and stitching; Apply three advanced finishing techniques to a garment project and explain the techniques in a brief presentation; Develop a marketing plan for a completed garment, including pricing, display strategy, and present it during a mock showcase.
