Course Description

Beginning Russian 1 | Acquire foundational skills in Russian grammar, vocabulary, basic conversation, and Cyrillic handwriting. Demonstrate appropriate use of casual and formal greetings as well as simple commands in spoken Russian. Note: Basic Russian (LAU-323) or instructor permission recommended. $183 includes $10 fee.

Learner Outcomes

Recite the Russian Cyrillic alphabet, write numbers 1-10, and demonstrate basic Cyrillic handwriting through guided practice activities. Practice correct pronunciation of stressed and unstressed Russian vowels during instructor‑led speaking and listening exercises. Demonstrate appropriate use of casual and formal greetings, introductions, and simple commands in spoken Russian through role‑play scenarios. Identify and appropriately use first names, nicknames, patronymics, and last names in culturally accurate Russian contexts. Engage in simple conversations using formal and informal phrases related to dining out, hotels, shopping, and transportation.
