Course Description

Spanish Literature for Senior Adults | Read and discuss selected Spanish novels with a focus on understanding the main idea, themes, author background and cultural significance of each work. Instruction and discussion are conducted in Spanish. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 or older by start date to enroll. Students are expected to have a foundational background in Spanish. Book selection will be emailed to the students.

Learner Outcomes

Read the Spanish version of a selected novel or literary excerpt and demonstrate comprehension by participating in at least one guided class discussion. Identify, record, and practice fifteen new vocabulary words from the assigned reading and demonstrate understanding by correctly using the words in oral discussion. Examine three grammar structures or sentence patterns drawn directly from the text and construct five original sentences, demonstrating correct usage in guided classroom activities. Analyze two cultural or historical references found in the literature and explain their significance through small‑group discussion. Practice spoken Spanish by discussing the main idea, plot, theme, and significance of the story and contribute at least one relevant comment using familiar vocabulary and sentence structures.
