Course Description

Discovering Quebec: History, Culture and Travel | Explore Quebecs geography, history and culture, with a special focus on Montreal. Examine Indigenous roots, the French language and identity, and Quebecs place in Canada, while discovering local traditions and daily life. Discuss a travel itinerary to Montreal featuring historic sites, transportation options and cultural experiences. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 or older by start date.

Learner Outcomes

Identify Quebecs major geographic regions and explain Montreals economic, cultural, and political importance within the province through map activities and short discussions; Describe key events in Quebecs history, including Indigenous presence, French settlement, and British rule, using a chronological timeline and guided class discussions; Explain the role of the French language in Quebec and its relationship with other Canadian provinces through short readings and reflective conversations; Describe Montreals cultural diversity, traditions, and aspects of everyday life using examples from videos, images, and class discussions; Discuss a Montreal travel itinerary that includes historical sites, transportation options, and cultural experiences in a structured speaking or presentation activity.
