Course Description

Healthy Living for Older Adults | Heighten awareness of the health benefits of exercise and nutrition as well as how to incorporate health and wellness into daily life. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 or older by start date to enroll.

Learner Outcomes

Define the concepts of physical fitness; Discuss the value of physical activity and nutrition; Demonstrate an understanding of health and safety precautions; Describe ways of incorporating health and wellness into their lifestyle; Demonstrate techniques for self-assessment.

Omalley Senior Center | Ballroom Dance | No class Nov 3 | Sharpen your dance skills, get exercise, and have fun in this engaging class with Carlos Pabon, former Rhythm and Latin National Champion and respected national competition judge. You will learn the basics of ballroom dance while building a foundation of movement, patterns, and skills for each dance style. Carlos enjoys working with seniors and highlights ballrooms benefits, from physical fitness to memory support. All levels are welcome, and partners are encouraged but not required.

Online | Healing Arts Level 1 | No class Nov. 26 | A range of healing arts topics will be covered including alternative, complementary, holistic, integrative, mind-body, wellness, and world medicine. An overview of natural health foods, specialized diets and nutritional supplements is covered. Also included are self-healing practices of mindfulness meditation, journaling, reflective writing, plus intuitive and creative arts. Subtle energy therapies covered include homeopathy, herbs, essential oils, aroma therapy, acupuncture, bodywork and hands healing, plus Yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong, and subtle energy movement exercise practices. Note: Attendance in online class sessions Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. is mandatory for section 901.
