Course Description

Read brief extracts from the works of Western civilization and discuss the ideas of philosophers, scientists and writers such as Mary Shelley, Aristotle, Goethe and others. Read and discuss a passage from the Bible, a folktale from Mexico and a creation myth of North American indigenous peoples. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Enhance communications skills of listening, thinking, speaking, and writing; discover a point of entry into challenging and thought-provoking texts; develop questioning strategies for works of literature for classical texts; identify key ideas on life experience and outlook in brief passages of literature, philosophy, history, science, and mathematics; listen actively to varying perspectives; and think critically while examining assumptions and idea.
