Course Description

Ceramics 2 | Develop a personal artistic direction through interpretation of assigned projects. Study glaze mixing, formulation, kiln-loading and firing. Learn through individual studio work, slide lectures, field trips and critiques. CEUs issued. $447 includes $75 fee. Prerequisite: ART-145 Ceramics 1, ART-145H or permission of department chair. Note: All sections also offered for credit, ART-146.

Learner Outcomes

Describe and discuss objective and subjective ways of critically analyzing and evaluating ceramic art works; Design and decorate clay forms using a variety of advanced slip techniques; Identify and describe the primary components and role of each material in a clay body or a glaze recipe; Identify and discuss glaze theory and perform glaze testing; Define and describe oxidation, reduction and Raku kiln loading and firing processes.
