Course Description

Painting 1 | Study the context, history, materials and techniques of oil painting. Explore light and shadow while using a limited palette to paint still lifes. Develop an understanding of color harmony while creating complex paintings with a full palette. $427 includes $55 fee. Prerequisite: ARS-388 or ART-125 Drawing 1 or permission of department chair. Note: All sections also offered for credit, ART-131.

Identify the techniques and tools of painting; Create complex paintings with a full palette; Identify the value properties in painting; Identify the aesthetic, emotional, and spatial properties of color; Demonstrate how to mix colors.
