Course Description

Medical Assisting Externship | Gain 100 hours of supervised, unpaid, practical experience in medical offices. CEUs issued. Prerequisites: Completion of all clinical medical assistant courses required with a minimum grade of 80% or better. $60 fee. Note: Students must be 18 years old. Corequisites: CMA-304: Intro to Healthcare: Anatomy and Physiology, and Personability for Healthcare Workers, CMA-305: Clinical Medical Assistant I, and CMA-306: Clinical Medical Assisting II. Learner Outcomes

Apply infection control procedures; Assist with examinations and perform clinical diagnostic procedures (EKG, vital signs, point of care testing); Execute laboratory procedures common in an outpatient setting; Perform medication calculations and administration for po, topical, intradermal, subcutaneous and intramuscular; injections; Demonstrate clinical documentation in the electronic medical records using appropriate medical terminology .
