Course Description

Metal Casting | Learn the technical, historic and aesthetic aspects of metal casting processes related to sculpture. Develop skills in wax working, mold making, metal casting, metal finishing/chasing and patina applications, with an emphasis on foundry safety. CEUs issued. $477 includes $105 fee. Prerequisite: ATS-340 Sculpture 1, ART-135 Sculpture 1: Clay Model and Mix Media, ART-138 Metal Art Fabrication or permission of department chair. Note: Also offered for credit as ART 249.

Learner Outcomes

Discuss historical and cultural applications of metal casting; Produce sculptural compositions using metal casting materials, techniques and processes; Apply recommended studio safety guidelines and categorize materials and tools used in metal casting; Assess consistencies and ratios when mixing chemically reactive materials such as sand, resin, and silicone; Identify mold design elements.
