Course Description

Explore techniques and methods for teaching reading in an ESL or ELL environment; learn characteristics of extensive and intensive reading; analyze theories and debates related to reading comprehension and reading fluency. Prerequisite: students who have not completed or are not currently enrolled in ESL-380 should contact the ELL department prior to enrolling in ESL-384.

Examine a variety of techniques and methods for teaching reading skills and strategies to students; Employ extensive reading throughout the overall reading curriculum; Identify appropriate reading materials; Evaluate methods for developing students' reading fluency rate and improving their comprehension; Measure student learning gains with effective assessment techniques.
