Course Description
CNA Theory | Learn to function as a patient care assistant within the health care team through lectures, simulated nursing skills’ practice in a college laboratory and clinical practice in the hospital or long-term care facility. Practice selected procedures on other students during lab. There is a fee for the state registry exam. Textbook information available at AACC Bookstore. CEUs issued. $1,223 includes $98 fee. Additional cost for scrubs and shoes. Prerequisite: 18 years old and high school or GED® diploma Corequisite: NRN-344 CNA Skills Lab/Clinical Note: Approved by Maryland Board of Nursing as meeting Certified Nursing Assistant requirements. Endorsed by Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) as meeting requirements for the Geriatric Nursing Assistants (GNA) state registry exam. English as a Second Language students must earn a composite score of 310 or better on the Level of English Proficiency exam, or successfully complete Capstone Level ESL coursework.Learner Outcomes
Identify roles and responsibilities of the nursing assistant within the healthcare team/setting, and discuss work ethics to include professionalism and communication; Outline client care basics and safety measures, discuss body systems, identify and assess nutrition, hydration and elimination needs, identify body mechanics and infection control processes; Calculate and record vital signs, identify different types of wounds and basic dressing changes, outline care for surgical clients, and demonstrate safe positioning, transferring and restraint care; Demonstrate end of life and post-mortem care.Applies Towards the Following Certificates
