Course Description

CNA Skills Lab/Clinical | Learn to function as a patient care assistant within the health care team through lectures, simulated nursing skills practice in a college laboratory, and clinical practice in the hospital or long-term care facility. Practice selected procedures on other students during lab. Approved by Maryland Board of Nursing as meeting Certified Nursing Assistant requirements. Endorsed by Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) as meeting requirements for the Geriatric Nursing Assistants (GNA) state registry exam. There is a fee for the state registry exam. Textbook information available at AACC Bookstore. CEUs issued. $1,633 includes $433 fee. Corequisite: NRN-343 CNA Theory. Note: Students must be 18 years old. Additional cost for scrubs and shoes.

Learner Outcomes

Demonstrate how to properly feed, bathe and toilet a patient; Demonstrate how to check vital signs, ambulate and restrain a patient; Document and practice how to monitor oxygen (intake and output), care for an ostomy, and collect specimens; Demonstrate foley care, how to perform basic dressing changes, and proper post-operation care; Practice and prepare for skills testing.
